Welcome to the LS² Annual Meeting 2017!

Dear colleagues and friends

It is our pleasure to invite you to the LS² Annual Meeting 2017, held on the 2nd and 3rd of February, 2017 at the Irchel Campus of the University of Zurich. The LS² Annual Meeting brings together scientists from all nations and backgrounds to explore the large spectrum united under the umbrella of Life Sciences. 

Alongside our scientific programme with internationally renowned speakers (see below), we also offer career development sessions, as well as numerous workshops and discussion rounds, a large industry exhibition and 100+ posters presented by promising young scientists.

Discover the latest, most exciting findings in the field, from Molecular and Cellular Biosciences to Proteomics and Physiology, or enjoy the Satellite Workshop on opportunities in academic and non-academic careers. Scientists who are at the stage to start their own research group and who are interested in doing so in a Swiss research institution are welcome to enter the contest "Tomorrow's PI", where the best future projects from diverse disciplines are being showcased. 

For the youngest scientists (BSc/MSc students), we do not only offer an informative session on opportunities in and outside the academic world, but also offer the first 40 to register 50CHF to support their registration fee and travels to the meeting!

PhD students can meet their peers at the Poster and Apéro session and win one of the prestigious poster prizes (worth 500 CHF). In addition to the poster sessions, flash talks will be embedded in the scientific symposia.

As every year, the winner of the Friedrich-Miescher Award and the Lelio Orci Award will be honored in a special ceremony.

The entire LS2 Annual Meeting 2017 has been accredited for 1.5 days of continuous education in the field of animal experimentation by RESAL/SGV.

Please note that people registering via the following link will be cross-checked with the meeting attendance list after the 3rd of February before the certificate will be sent out.

Announcement of the Friedrich-Miescher-Award 2017 winner!

The Friedrich-Miescher-Award winner 2017 is Prof. Dr. Petr Cejka from the Institute for Research in Biomedicine in Bellinzona.

The prize is intended to honour young biochemists and is donated by the Friedrich-Miescher-Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation in Basel.
Prof. Dr. Cejka investigates various steps in the homologous recombination pathway. Find out more about his research here.
He will present his research in the award session on Thursday, 2nd of February (16.30h), in his talk entitled "Processing DNA double-strand breaks for repair by homologous recombination".

The "Careers in Science" session will go online soon. Talks from selected abstracts will be selected after the submission deadline (extended to 12 December 2016). Submit an abstract to maybe present your research in a talk, too!

Satellite Workshop "Careers in Science" hosted by Dr. Ulrike Rieder

On 3rd of February, a Satellite Workshop showcasing academic and non-academic careers in Science will be running in parallel to the scientific symposia. You will have the opportunity to gather information from young professionals from different science-related positions, ranging from academic positions to industry researchers, and science journalists. Invited speakers from in- and outside academia  will present their career paths, followed by a roundtable discussion where all participants are invited to ask their questions.

Advanced Postdocs with the wish to start an own research group in a Swiss research institution are invited to submit an abstract describing their research proposal to the LS2 Scientific Officer Dr. Carolin von Schoultz. The best submissions will be chosen in a selection process by a jury of advanced Postdocs. Selected candidates will then get the opportunity to present their work in front of a knowledgeable auditorium and a jury at the LS² meeting. "Most Promising Science Prize" prize by the Journal of General Virology

The Journal of General Virology ‘Most Promising Science Prize’ will be awarded to one scientific poster at the LS2 Annual Meeting 2017. The prize will be awarded to a poster that presents particularly compelling or novel research in the journal’s subject field. It will be presented by Journal of General Virology Editor, Urs Greber. The winner will receive a cash prize, certificate and a year’s membership to the Microbiology Society.

All posters displayed at the LS2 Annual Meeting 2017 are automatically entered for the prize.
