Welcome Words

Dear colleagues,

It is our pleasure to welcome you to the LS2 Annual Meeting 2025, hosted at the University of Fribourg. Our Annual Meeting is for scientists from all fields of life sciences that form LS2, showcasing the outstanding research taking place in Switzerland, its diversity and interdisciplinarity. This event serves as a dynamic platform bringing together scientists with different scientific backgrounds and from various countries, which is a key factor in the success of LS2.

This year's Annual Meeting holds the theme "The Complexity of Life: From Molecular Assemblies to Networks", reflecting our collective effort to understand the function and regulation of life. The scientific committee is delighted to announce the participation of distinguished scientists as keynote speakers. We are thrilled to host three keynote lectures delivered by Prof. Sascha Martens from the University of Vienna, Vienna BioCenter (VBC) (AT), Prof. Bernhard Küster from the Technical University of Munich (DE), and Prof. Irene Miguel-Aliaga from the Francis Crick Institute (UK). These keynote lectures encompass a diverse range of captivating research topics, covering different “scales” of biology: protein assemblies coordinating membrane dynamics, regulation of the proteome and its dysregulation in disease, and regulation of organ plasticity.

The keynote lectures will be integrated into an exciting program with scientific symposia organized by the various LS2 sections and partners. This includes ten invited speakers and over 40 speakers who will be selected based on their abstract submissions. As is tradition, we eagerly anticipate the laureate talks by the recipients of the Friedrich Miescher Award and the Lelio Orci Award. In addition, there will be two poster sessions and a large industry exhibition area to encourage scientific interactions.

The scientific exchange facilitated by in-person meetings is unparalleled. Therefore, we encourage you to seize this opportunity to join us in Fribourg for 2 ½ days of stimulating discussions. LS2 stands as the unique life science meeting in Switzerland with such a broad scientific program. Fostering interaction with our young scientists has always been a crucial aspect of the LS2 Annual Meetings.

Furthermore, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to all our sponsors and exhibitors for their invaluable contributions that make our 2025 Annual Meeting possible. We encourage you to visit their booths and engage in discussions with their representatives to stay informed about the latest technological developments.

On behalf of the scientific committee and the entire meeting preparation team, we eagerly look forward to this meeting and hope to welcome many of you in Fribourg.

Sincerely,

Chairs of the LS2 Annual Meeting 2025
